PALMER STREET DUPLEX
In a rare ‘double-wide’ lot, one, multi-generational, multi-cultural family dreams of a garden that connects. A place to spread out beyond the narrow confines of the typical rowhouse width, and a place to grow-up and grow-old - together. Taking advantage of the rear yard’s south-facing orientation, a vertical garden is envisioned that will provide this food-centric family with an abundance of fresh herbs and produce - all accessible via balcony spaces immediately adjacent to the open kitchens at each unit. While technically two separate private residences—a 1-story unit on the ground floor for a pair of older family members, and a 2-story unit on floors 2 & 3 for younger (and growing) family members who also both work from home. The garden and vertical circulation space—housed in an atrium—offer light-filled ‘buffer’ spaces for sharing and communal gathering. This project has not yet been built.
